Garmin Varia RearVue 820 cycling radar enhances road riding safety by combining a rear-view radar and taillight in one compact device.

The micro radar monitors traffic behind the bike, detecting vehicles approaching from behind up to 175 meters away, and can also assess their size. The rider gains a better overview of what's happening behind them and can react sooner to traffic situations.

Compared to previous generations, the RearVue 820 provides more accurate assessment of the situation behind you and better filters relevant traffic, making alerts more reliable and less intrusive.

Improved communication with compatible devices also ensures faster and clearer real-time information transfer.

When paired with a compatible Garmin Edge cycling computer, Garmin watch, or the Varia app on your phone, the device clearly displays vehicles behind you directly on the screen.

Vehicle icons move according to their position, their size corresponds to the size of the detected vehicle, and the radar also assesses the level of threat based on size, speed, and lateral distance from your path. In case of a higher risk level, the system alerts you with a distinct visual and audible warning.

The taillight increases cyclist visibility and automatically changes its flashing pattern when a vehicle is detected behind you, making riding in traffic even safer.

Compared to older models, it offers smoother and more readable changes in light mode, improving communication with surrounding traffic. It also includes a brake light function to help alert other road users to slowing down or stopping.

Alerts According to Preferences

When you connect the radar to the Varia app on your phone, a compatible Edge cycling computer, or a Garmin smartwatch, you can receive visual or audible alerts while riding. In addition to wrist vibration alerts, select Garmin watches can notify you of approaching vehicles by voice – this feature is currently available in the public Garmin beta testing program for select watches.

Various Lighting Patterns
Four different patterns are available: daytime flash, nighttime flash, solid light, and a peloton mode that does not blind cyclists riding behind you. You can also create your own custom patterns in the Varia app on your phone.

Compact Design
Thanks to its sleek, compact design and new seatpost mount, the Varia RearVue 820 radar can be attached to almost any road or gravel bike. The model is compatible with a seat-stay mount kit (sold separately).
