The Model S5 is a global sporting benchmark for speed and aerodynamic efficiency – and race results prove it. From Wout van Aert, who won the Green Jersey with the largest margin in modern history, to Simon Yates, who rode to the maglia rosa, the iconic V stem and bayonet fork of the Model S5 are an integral part of the professional peloton. The new S5 builds on this legacy of speed by being even faster.
The new bike is more than 6 watts faster than its predecessor, 124 grams lighter and retains the handling, balance and stability that riders love around the world. The biggest changes are happening at the front of the bike, where the most significant aerodynamic performance originates. The fork legs and head tube are in a more pronounced racing position and the all-new one-piece handlebar/stem builds on the original V stem concept – and is even faster.
The new Reserve 57|64 wheels were co-developed by Reserve and Cervélo and designed for use on the new S5 bike. The asymmetry of the rear wheel matches the seat tube, ensuring smooth airflow over both wheels. The new wheels are 3 watts faster than the 52|63 wheels and weigh the same.
The new S5 is 6.3 watts faster than its predecessor. These gains are achieved primarily in the front of the bike, but the integration of asymmetrical seat tube and rear wheel profiles is also a significant source. Cervélo has long been an aerodynamic leader in the peloton, and we are confident that the new S5 is at least 5 watts faster than our competitors' bikes.
HB19 utilises the Cervélo “Plus-Four” concept, meaning the handlebar dimension is 4cm narrower than the drops (e.g. 38cm/42cm). This approach helps riders maintain a more aerodynamic body position when their hands are on the handlebars and provides stability in the drops when descending and sprinting. All handlebar sizes are UCI legal, even with the latest regulation changes.
The new S5 features an advanced, one-piece handlebar/stem that makes both the bike and rider faster. Cervélo knows, however, that achieving the perfect fit is a key component of not only speed but also comfort on the bike. As part of the development of the new bike, they have created a number of additional handlebar/stem length and width combinations to ensure that all riders get as close to the ideal fit as possible.
Every rider who purchases a new S5 bike will be able to request another handlebar/stem of a different size free of charge. This request must be made through an authorised Cervélo dealer where the bike was purchased and must be made within 60 days of the date of sale. Cervélo will send the handlebars to the dealer, and the dealer will install them on your new S5 bike.
