MIPS - Multi-Directional Impact Protection System

MIPS is a slip liner between the EPS shell (helmet body) and the inner liners. In the event of an angled impact, the EPS shell of the helmet will roll a few millimetres over the MIPS layer, protecting the head and brain from the violent rotational jerk.
Although this movement is only on the order of a few millimeters, the result is that MIPS significantly reduces the amount of rotational force that might otherwise be transmitted to the brain.

Technology:

• FUSION IN-MOLD POLYCARBONATE SHELL. Technology of direct injection of EPS polystyrene foam into the shell and reinforcements enclosed in the mold. This way a very strong, durable and compact unit is achieved. Bell's original technology, which has become the standard.

• IN-MOLD CONSTRUCTION, combines an outer shell made of hardened polycarbonate with an inner foam padding designed to absorb impacts. This direct injection moulding of foam into the shell offers an unrivalled weight to strength ratio. It also allows for better helmet ventilation options.

• ERGO FIT™ is used in Bell helmets designed for recreational riding. The narrow, adjustable headband wraps around the entire head and the comfortable wheel makes it easy to adjust with one hand. By tightening, a precise and stable fit of the helmet on different head shapes can be easily achieved. Of course, it is compatible with braided hair.
